Public Meeting scheduled for Former Atlas D Missile Site 3

Cheyenne, Wyo. – On Tuesday, June 30, 2015, the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) will be hosting a public meeting to explain the Proposed Plan for the Former Atlas “D” Missile Site 3, located in Laramie County.

The Atlas “D” Missile Site 3 is a Formerly Used Defense Site which was found to have groundwater contamination due to past practices.

The USACE will provide a brief presentation on the plan, and representatives from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will be on hand to answer questions.

The proposed plan summarizes the alternatives considered for addressing groundwater contamination at the site and proposes a preferred remedy to address groundwater contamination.

“DEQ is pleased that the Corps extended the public comment period and is hosting a second public meeting,” said Lily Barkau, DEQ program manager. “We hope that this second meeting will provide further clarification on the project to address questions and concerns the public has raised.”

The meeting is slated to begin at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Laramie County Public Library, 2200 Pioneer Avenue in Cheyenne, WY.

Currently the USACE is taking public comments until July 6, 2015 and interested parties may contact Jeff Skog at 402-995-2739 or by email at jeff.A.Skog@usace.army.mil for more information.
