Edwards returns to DEQ as Industrial Siting administrator, deputy director

Cheyenne – A well-respected past administrator is returning to the fold at the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

Director Todd Parfitt announced today that Alan Edwards will return to DEQ to take on the dual roles of deputy director and administrator of the Industrial Siting Division (ISD).

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Alan Edwards back to the DEQ,” Parfitt said, adding that Edwards is a proven leader with invaluable experience and knowledge.

Edwards previously retired from DEQ in October 2020. At the time, he served as the deputy director and the administrator of the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Division.

Before his retirement, Edwards worked at DEQ for a total of 19 years. He began work with the Water Quality Division (WQD) in 1982, serving in many roles, including supervisor of the Wastewater Construction Grants program, DEQ representative to the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board and the governor’s lead for the Brookhurst subdivision superfund site near Casper.

Edwards served as interim DEQ director for seven months in 1989. He pursued interests outside of DEQ between 1991 and 2010, at which time he took on the position of AML administrator. He took on the role of deputy director in 2015.
