(EPA Capacity Development) Applying Asset Management Principles to Lead Service Line Inventories.

EPA established the Lead and Copper Rule to protect public health and reduce exposure to lead and copper in drinking water. The most common sources of lead in drinking water are lead pipes and plumbing components. There are still an estimated 6 to 10 million lead service lines in cities and towns across the country, many of which are in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color. New rule requirements are targeting these lead pipes, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and its provisions appropriated $15 billion specifically for lead service line inventories and replacements.
