Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Workers Recognized at Proclamation Signing

By Kimberly Mazza

Whereas it is fitting to recognize and honor the efforts of solid waste and recycling workers in providing a critical service to the people of Wyoming while protecting human health and our environment…”

These were words read by Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon as he signed a Proclamation recognizing Wyoming’s Solid Waste and Recycling Workers. This was part of a weeklong effort by the Wyoming’s Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) Solid Waste Permitting and Corrective Action Program to recognize those in the solid waste industry.

During the signing, both WDEQ Director Todd Parfitt and Solid and Hazardous Waste Division Administrator Suzanne Engels thanked those in the solid waste industry for their critical work.

Administrator Engels also thanked the members of the Wyoming Solid Waste & Recycling Association (WSWRA) who attended the ceremony stating that the DEQ values their efforts as well.

“Over time, the solid waste industry has truly evolved from managing dumps to operating modern landfills. The WDEQ applauds the efforts of the communities and the workers to effectively manage waste,” remarked Engels.

Jerry Hamel, the President of WSWRA thanked the State of Wyoming and the Governor for this recognition of the solid waste and recycling workers of this great state. “This would not be possible without the solid working relationship with the WDEQ,” noted Hamel. “As a born and raised Wyoming native, I take great pride in preserving our open spaces and heritage. It is all of our responsibility to protect the environment for our children and future generations.”
