Emerging Contaminants
Emerging contaminants (ECs) or contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) are substances or organisms that may pose a risk to people and the environment that have not been fully studied or regulated.
The Water Quality Division is working to:
- Better understand emerging contaminants and their presence in Wyoming;
- Identify strategies to address emerging contaminants that may pose a risk to human health or the environment; and
- Implement strategies to address emerging contaminants that may pose a risk to human health or the environment.
Emerging contaminants include:
- Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
- Pharmaceuticals
- Personal care products
- Nano and micro plastics and fibers
- Endocrine disrupting chemicals
- Personal care products
- 6-PPD and 6-PPD quinone
- 1,4-Dioxane
- Perchlorate
- Trichloroethylene
- Cyanotoxins
