CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Aug. 26, 2026 – Governor Mark Gordon (R-WY) announces the retirement of Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Director Todd Parfitt, who will depart on Oct. 1, following more than 14 years of distinguished leadership and 32 years of dedicated public service to the State of Wyoming.
Appointed Director in 2012, Parfitt has guided DEQ through one of the most dynamic and transformative periods in the agency’s history. Under his leadership, DEQ strengthened Wyoming’s environmental programs, expanded state regulatory authority, modernized public-facing systems, and advanced major initiatives supporting Wyoming’s air, land, and water resources.

“It has been a tremendous honor and pleasure to have worked directly for Governor Mark Gordon for the last eight years and for Governor Matt Mead before that as the Director,” said Todd Parfitt, DEQ Director. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the outstanding staff of DEQ who work tirelessly to implement a solutions-oriented culture that improves the quality of the air, water and land for the betterment of all Wyoming citizens while also enabling robust energy and economic development and growth.”
Governor Mark Gordon praised Parfitt’s service, stating: “I first served with Todd Parfitt back in the early days of this century under Dave Freudenthal. Through all that time, Todd has been a steady, thoughtful, and highly respected leader. His commitment to Wyoming’s environment and natural resources, along with his ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, has strengthened the state’s environmental protections while supporting responsible economic development. Wyoming is better because of his service. I have cherished our friendship, gained from his advice, and admired his common sense. I wish him and his family the best in his next endeavors.”
DEQ leadership also expressed appreciation for Parfitt’s contributions.
